Germany’s Friedrich Merz misses parliamentary majority for chancellorship
Investing.com — Friedrich Merz, the German conservative leader, did not secure the necessary parliamentary majority to be appointed as chancellor on Tuesday.
This unexpected result presents a challenge for his new coalition with the center-left Social Democrats.
The lower house of parliament, known as the Bundestag, now has a period of 14 days to elect Merz or another candidate as chancellor, provided they can secure an outright majority.
